Friday's Results, and a few tidbits

The lone wrestling action to take place tonight was at Chestnut Ridge, where the Lions posted a 50-15 win over Somerset and a 65-9 victory over Claysburg.

Of note in the Somerset match was Trent Crouse's 10-4 win over Austin Hemminger. I highlighted that bout for my Gazette stuff, and Ridge coach Greg Lazor had good things to say about Crouse. Crouse took Hemminger apart from a neutral position standpoint with three takedowns, and he also came out either with points or not giving up any in a couple of scramble situations.
Crouse is now down to weigh in at 152 pounds, while Justin McCoy wrestled at 120, and Levi Hobson did so at 138 against Claysburg. All of that gives Lazor even more flexibility as the season heats up for the Lions quickly from here on out, with Berlin on Thursday, the Ultimate Duals next weekend, and the Thomas Tournament the week after that.
I didn't get a chance to recap Thursday's win for Ridge at Northern Bedford. Frankly, Lazor was more disappointed in his team's bout losses more than the wins despite a lopsided team outcome. The matchup at 132 is likely one we'll see again and it is becoming a good rivalry, between Chestnut Ridge's Morgan Deremer and Northern Bedford's Jared Helsley. In this one, Helsley scored a nice reversal in the third period to pull out the victory.
Here's a couple more notes about the last two days:

   — Nick Roberts was in attendance at Friday's duals at Chestnut Ridge and he confirmed to me that he is now at UPJ and won't likely wrestle until next season. The former three-time state champion is recovering from a broken hand.

   — I wasn't at Berlin's 35-33 win over North Star, but the result was much closer than I would have thought. I did think North Star matched up fairly well, and the Cougars have some solid wrestlers. Still unknown for Berlin is the status of Braden Fochtman, though it would appear unlikely that we'll see him on Thursday against Chestnut Ridge.
